How does Tattoo Removal work?

The Enlighten laser targets the ink particles in your tattoo with specific pulse durations and various wavelengths of light energy. During the treatment, the tattoo ink absorbs the light energy from the laser. This causes the ink particles to vibrate and shatter into tiny micro-particles. These particles are then small enough to be reabsorbed by the body’s lymphatic (cleaning) system, resulting in the fading of the tattoo.

What makes our laser different?

A common concern regarding tattoo removal Melbourne is the lengthy process associated with older technology. The Enlighten laser, unlike traditional ‘q-switch’ removal methods, can remove your tattoo up to three times faster, thanks to its dual pulse technology.

Enlighten boasts the unique ability to achieve pulse durations between 750 and 2 nanoseconds, a feat not possible with any other laser on the market. Offering both Pico and Nano pulses, the Enlighten Laser enables our nurses to match the pulse duration to the size of the ink particles, allowing for a complete and faster clearance of your tattoo.

Some tattoos have multiple colours, requiring multiple wavelengths for effective removal. The Enlighten features three fully integrated laser wavelengths, which is particularly beneficial for effectively removing multi-coloured tattoos.

Consultation

At Tattoo Removal Melbourne, we offer complimentary, no-obligation consultations with our experienced laser nurses for our tattoo removal patients. During this consultation, your laser nurse will assess your tattoo, discuss a treatment plan tailored to you, and provide an estimated cost. We recommend allocating 15-30 minutes for this consultation. Please keep this in mind when organizing parking to avoid feeling rushed. Depending on the availability of the laser, your treatment may be conducted on the same day.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the type and colours of the tattoo. Generally, tattoo removal can be achieved after six to ten treatments, with some patients noticing significant results after just three to four sessions. Treatments are spaced at ten to twelve-week intervals, allowing the body time to naturally eliminate the broken ink particles.

What to expect after treatment?

Immediately after the treatment, the area will appear ‘frosted’ and may feel similar to sunburn. We will apply a dressing and an ice pack to the area to help minimize any discomfort. You may need to change your dressing from a few days to up to two weeks and clean the area with mild soap and water. In the following weeks, you may experience some scabbing and blistering, both of which are normal. We advise keeping the area out of the sun for optimal results.

Possible complications

While this laser is very safe, in some cases, it may cause hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) or hypopigmentation (skin lightening). To guard against this, we may perform a patch test and monitor the area for 4-6 weeks before the initial treatment.
